What's new in Mobile Mediation: In-App Bidding technology

Android app owners that use Mobile Mediation for monetization can now add the myTarget (project VK) advertising network to auctions using In-App Bidding technology.


Mobile Mediation is a free Yandex platform for monetizing mobile apps. It enables you to serve ads from multiple advertising networks in your app. Each advertising network offers ads for the impression, and Mobile Mediation automatically selects the one with the best price for the publisher.

What is In-App Bidding

In-App Bidding is a technology that enables Mobile Mediation to find out what price advertising networks are offering ads for in real time. The myTarget network now uses this technology for apps in Mobile Mediation. We'll be adding other networks soon, too.

In-App Bidding makes it easier for publishers to connect an advertising network to Mobile Mediation: unlike networks that don't support bidding, you don't have to spend time setting up multiple thresholds. 

Not all advertising networks support bidding technologically. However, publishers can still get the best price per impression. For these networks, Mobile Mediation uses smart waterfall technology. Instead of the classical cascade model of threshold traversal, a predictive model is applied.

Using these technologies simultaneously makes ad serving faster and increases publisher revenue.

How does it work

When the user goes to the ad screen, the app sends a request to Yandex Mobile Mediation. The platform begins to determine which ad from which advertising network will be the most profitable.

For networks that use In-App Bidding, Mobile Mediation requests bids directly from all networks at the same time and receives an immediate response.

Advertising networks that are connected via the smart waterfall also take part. After the bidding networks respond, the ML algorithm predicts whether other networks can offer higher bids.

If the algorithm determines that it's possible, Mobile Mediation sends an ad request to the network. Otherwise, it immediately serves the most profitable ad from the bidding network.

Mobile Mediation isn't an intermediary between the publisher and external advertising networks in terms of remuneration. Just as before, publishers receive payments directly from networks.

How to enable it

If you already use Mobile Mediation

To enable myTarget with In-App Bidding technology, follow the instructions.

If you've already added myTarget using the smart waterfall system, disable integration when you set up bidding.

If you haven't used Mobile Mediation before

Register in the Yandex Advertising Network and add the app to Mobile Mediation. To learn more, see the instructions.
